Youth Fundraisers
Bethel provides several youth fundraisers throughout the school year that create a time of fellowship and connection for the youth and the adults of the congregation as well as a great opportunity for the youth to earn some or all of their trip expenses. Information about each fundraiser is sent to all youth and parents well before the event. Funds earned are “banked” in individual youth accounts. The Youth Fundraising Schedule for 2008-2009 is as follows:
August
WELCA Garage Sale
During the annual WELCA Garage Sale, the Bethel youth are offered a limited number of work shifts during which they help with the organization, sales, and clean-up of the event. In exchange for this help, money is deposited by WELCA in each youth’s summer trip fund for shifts worked.
September
Rice County Steam & Gas Engines Show
During the annual Rice County Steam & Gas Engines Show, the Bethel youth are asked to work shifts selling tickets in the ticket booth. The number of shifts is limited and assigned on a first come, first served basis. Youth are paid for each shift worked at the show.
October - November
Youth Service Sale
A strong Bethel fundraising tradition, this fundraiser takes place every fall. Youth have the chance to offer a variety of services as individuals, pairs, or teams to Bethel members. Those services are then put up for sale and congregation or family members sign up for items of interest to them. Delivery of the services begins early in December.
December
Cub Foods Bagging
Once a year, Bethel youth bag groceries at Cub Foods for tips. Youth sign up for shifts and the proceeds of this fundraiser are divided equally among the participating youth and deposited in their trip accounts.
February
Valentine Dinner
A beloved Bethel tradition, the Valentine Dinner is an annual event sponsored by the Bethel youth. Tickets are sold and youth participate in a variety of areas including kitchen prep, dining room set-up and decorating, wait staff, entertainment, nursery, and clean-up. Proceeds from the dinner are divided equally and money is deposited in individual youth summer trip accounts.
March/May
Spring Flower Sale
Each spring, Bethel youth sell a variety of summer bedding plants and potted and hanging plants in their Spring Youth Flower Sale. The broad selection and high quality of the plants makes for a sale that is appreciated and anticipated by Bethel members, family members, friends, and neighbors. Selling instructions are sent to every youth, and families may choose to participate in this fundraiser as they are able. Youth summer accounts are credited in direct proportion to individual sales with up to 40% profit on many items. Download an order form.
March: Sale
May: Plant delivery & pick-up

Belgian Waffle Breakfast
A new youth fundraiser for Bethel this year is the Belgian Waffle Breakfast. The breakfast will be held on a Sunday morning immediately following the Sunday school hour. Youth and a parent are asked to sign up for work shifts including kitchen and dining room prep, bussing tables, dishwashing, and clean-up. The proceeds of the breakfast are divided equally among the youth participating in this event.

Scrip Sales
Bethel has participated in Scrip since 2006. What is Scrip? Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” - in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers. They’re the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our Bethel youth at a discount. Member families and friends buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our youth account keeps the difference as revenue. For more information about Bethel’s Scrip program, contact Bethel’s Finance Secretary; for a list of participating retailers, download the Bethel Scrip order form.
