Creation Care
Bethel Lutheran Church teaches its members to be faithful stewards of creation by promoting active care of the creation as integral to spiritual life and social justice.
The Creation Care Team meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:00pm at Bethel in the Fireside Room. We plan educational opportunities for the congregation as well as providing ideas for the Bethel facility itself. Our goal is that all decisions at Bethel will take into consideration the impact the decision has on God's creation. Will God's creation be healthier because of our decision? We focus on projects that individual members can do in their daily lives, as well as what we can do together as a faith community to care for the creation.
Here are some of the ways the Creation Care Team advocates for active care of creation:
- Promotes use of Eco-Palms on Palm Sunday.
- Leads Bethel’s yearly participation in "Change a Light, Change the World.”
- Provides opportunity for members to join the www.mnenergychallenge.org program
- Encourages the use of Fair Trade products through Lutheran World Relief (LWR).
- Manages Bethel’s donation station, a drop off location for members to bring used stamps, empty yellow and green prescription bottles with labels removed, empty printer ink cartridges, and burned-out, compact fluorescent light bulbs. Items are brought to Rice Co. Recycling.
- Plan Forums and other events. You are invited to any or all of the following:
- Late April or early May - Creation Care Fair, highlighting green ideas for our members to implement in their lives.
